Aura Sight

You discern auras. Auras are invisible to the naked eye, but to a psionic viewer manifesting this power they appear as glowing halos or envelopes of colored light that surround all objects. The color of each aura reveals information to the psionic character. The amount of information revealed depends on how long you study a particular area.

1st Round: Presence of good and evil auras in the area. You can’t pin an aura to a particular object or individual at this stage; instead, you see a colored haze suffusing the area. (This power can detect lawful and chaotic auras as well, but doing so requires a separate manifestation that focuses only on that alignment axis.)

2nd Round: Number of auras (creatures, objects, powers, or spells) in the area. You know how many auras are in the area, even though each aura doesn’t resolve to its actual location quite yet.

3rd Round: The owner of each aura is revealed, unless the individual is outside your line of sight. If a creature whose aura you detect has 5 or more Hit Dice than you do, you are overwhelmed by its presence and dazed for 1 round, and the power ends.

4th Round: You learn the dominant personality aspect(s) (by specific alignment) of every creature in the affected area.

5th Round: You learn the next-dominant personality aspects of the closest good or evil creature in the affected area (pick one if more than one is closest, and reset to this step or earlier as appropriate if a different creature is chosen). “Next-dominant” means the personality aspects of the adjacent whole-step alignments, which likely are important to the target creature.

6th Round and every round thereafter: You learn one new useful piece of generic information about the motivations of the closest good or evil creature in the affected area (pick one if more than one is closest, and reset to this step or earlier as appropriate if a different creature is chosen). “Generic” means the texts of the associated values they value most.

Augment: For every 2 additional power points you spend, this power’s range increases by 5 feet.

You detect magical auras. The amount of information revealed depends on how long you study a particular area or subject.

The strength and location of each aura. If the items or creatures bearing the auras are in line-of-sight, you can make Spellcraft skill checks to determine the school of magic involved in each. (Make one check per aura; DC 15 + spell level, or 15 + half caster level for a nonspell effect.)

Magical areas, multiple types of magic, or strong local magical emanations may distort or conceal weaker auras.

An aura’s power depends on a spell’s functioning spell level or an item’s caster level. If an aura falls into more than one category, detect magic indicates the stronger of the two.

Lingering Aura

A magical aura lingers after its original source dissipates (in the case of a spell) or is destroyed (in the case of a magic item). If detect magic is manifested and directed at such a location, the spell indicates an aura strength of dim (even weaker than a faint aura). How long the aura lingers at this dim level depends on its original strength.

Elementals and outsiders are not magic in themselves, but if they are summoned, the conjuration spells register. Each round, you can turn to detect magic in a new area. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it. Psionic detect magic can be made permanent with the incarnate power. Doing so requires a minimum manifester level of 11th and 1000 XP.

You detect psionic auras. A psionic aura is given off by any active or permanent power, or during the use of any psionic feat. Characters who have levels in a psionic class, creatures with the psionic subtype, and creatures with the Wild Talent feat or Hidden Talent feat also possess psionic auras. The amount of information revealed by the manifestation of this power depends on how long you study a particular area or subject.

3rd Round

The strength and location of each aura. If the items or creatures bearing the auras are in line-of-sight, you can make Psicraft checks to determine the discipline involved in each aura. (Make one check per aura; DC 15 + power level, or 15 + one-half manifester level for an effect that is not created by a power, such as that of a psionic item, or 15 + one-half HD to determine that it’s a creature)

Psionically charged locations, multiple disciplines, or strong local psionic emanations may confuse or conceal weaker auras.

A psionic aura’s strength depends on a functioning power’s level, an item’s manifester level, or a creature’s HD. If an aura falls into more than one category, detect psionics indicates the stronger of the two. Detection of an overwhelming aura (see the accompanying table) dazes you for 1 round and the power ends.

A psionic aura lingers after its original source dissipates (in the case of a power), is destroyed (in the case of a psionic item), or is killed (in the case of a psionic creature). Dispel Magic, Psionic

This power functions as if manifested by a manifester two levels lower than the manifester’s actual level.

You can use psionic dispel magic to end ongoing spells that have been cast on a creature or object, to temporarily suppress the magical abilities of a magic item, to end ongoing spells (or at least their effects) within an area, or to counter another spellcaster’s spell. A dispelled spell ends as if its duration had expired. Some spells, as detailed in their descriptions, can’t be defeated by psionic dispel magic. Psionic dispel magic can dispel (but not counter) spell-like effects just as it does spells.

You choose to use psionic dispel magic in one of three ways: a targeted dispel, an area dispel, or a counterspell:

Targeted Dispel

One object, creature, or spell is the target of the psionic dispel magic power. You make a dispel check (3d6 + your manifester level, maximum +10) against the spell or against each ongoing spell currently in effect on the object or creature. The DC for this dispel check is 11 + the spell’s caster level. If you succeed on a particular check, that spell is dispelled; if you fail, that spell remains in effect.

If you target an object or creature that is the effect of an ongoing spell (such as a monster summoned by monster summoning), you make a dispel check to end the spell that conjured the object or creature.

If the object that you target is a magic item, you make a dispel check against the item’s caster level. If you succeed, all the item’s magical properties are suppressed for 1d4 rounds, after which the item recovers on its own. A suppressed item becomes nonmagical for the duration of the effect. An interdimensional interface (such as a bag of holding) is temporarily closed. A magic item’s physical properties are unchanged: A suppressed magic sword is still a sword (a masterwork sword, in fact). Artifacts and deities are unaffected by mortal magic such as this.

You automatically succeed on your dispel check against any spell that you cast yourself.

Area Dispel

When psionic dispel magic is used in this way, the spell affects everything within a 20-foot radius.

For each creature within the area that is the subject of one or more spells, you make a dispel check against the spell with the highest caster level. If that check fails, you make dispel checks against progressively weaker spells until you dispel one spell (which discharges the psionic dispel magic power so far as that target is concerned) or until you fail all your checks. The creature’s magic items are not affected.

For each object within the area that is the target of one or more spells, you make dispel checks as with creatures. Magic items are not affected by an area dispel.

For each ongoing area or effect spell whose point of origin is within the area of the psionic dispel magic power, you can make a dispel check to dispel the spell.

For each ongoing spell whose area overlaps that of the psionic dispel magic power, you can make a dispel check to end the effect, but only within the overlapping area.

If an object or creature that is the effect of an ongoing spell (such as a monster summoned by monster summoning) is in the area, you can make a dispel check to end the spell that conjured that object or creature (returning it whence it came) in addition to attempting to dispel spells targeting the creature or object.

You may choose to automatically succeed on dispel checks against any spell that you have cast.

Counterspell

When psionic dispel magic is used in this way, the spell targets a spellcaster and is cast as a counterspell. Unlike a true counterspell, however, psionic dispel magic may not work; you must make a dispel check to counter the other spellcaster’s spell.

Augment: For every additional power point you spend, the bonus on your dispel check increases by 2 (to a maximum bonus of +20 for a 5-point expenditure).

Dispel Magic, Greater, Psionic

This power functions as if manifested by a manifester two levels lower than the manifester’s actual level.

This power functions like psionic dispel magic, except that the maximum manifester level on your dispel check is +20 instead of +10.

Additionally, psionic greater dispel magic has a chance to dispel any effect that remove curse can remove, even if psionic dispel magic can’t dispel that effect.

Augment: For every additional power point you spend, the bonus on your dispel check increases by 2 (to a maximum bonus of +40 for a 10-point expenditure).

Far Hand, Reflexive

This power functions as far hand, including how it can be augmented, except as noted here. Incorporates the effect of open/close (including being able to affect an object weighing up to 30 lb. for that effect). This power can be manifested even while flat-footed, allowing it to react to an attack from a single projectile or created object (instantaneous effects with the creation descriptor) in an instant.

The far hand effect can target magical or psionic objects as well, but they’re allowed a will save to avoid the effects of this manifestation of reflexive force of mind. You can immediately stop a moving object or propel the object (moving or not) as far as 15 feet in any direction. This movement is still too slow to treat the object as a weapon. You affect the first target immediately, but you must use move actions (as normal) to move the object around after that. You can change the target of the spell on your turn, but doing so is a move action.

The manifester may change freely between the effects of far hand and open/close for a given round while still concentrating, although changing the target requires a move action as normal. If your first target is for the open/close effect, that effect occurs for that object but the power remains in effect while you concentrate. You can manipulate the visible parts of the object (such as turning a knob to lock it) as part of either effect. You can open/close the same object as part of your concentration on your turn, or use a move action to redirect the power to another target. Targets that succeed on their will save from either effect cannot be affected again by this manifestation of reflexive force of mind.

You alter an item’s aura so that it registers to detect spells and powers (and spells and powers with similar capabilities) as though it were nonpsionic, or a psionic item of a kind you specify, or the subject of a power you specify.

If the object bearing psychic aura has identify cast on it (or psionic identify manifested on it) or is similarly examined, the examiner recognizes that the aura is false and detects the object’s actual qualities if he succeeds on a Will save. Otherwise, he believes the aura and no amount of testing reveals what the true power is.

If the targeted item’s own aura is exceptionally powerful (if it is an artifact, for instance), psionic aura doesn’t work.

Note: A psionic weapon, shield, or suit of armor must be a masterwork item, so a sword of average make, for example, looks suspicious if it has a psionic aura.

Psychic Sight

This power makes your eyes glow blue and allows you to see psionic auras within 120 feet of you. The effect is similar to that of a detect psionics power, but psychic sight does not require concentration and discerns aura location and power more quickly.

You know the location and power of all psionic auras within your sight. An aura’s power depends on a power’s functioning level or an item’s manifester level, as noted in the description of the detect psionics power. If the items or creatures bearing the auras are in line of sight, you can make Psicraft skill checks to determine the psionic discipline involved in each. (Make one check per aura; DC 15 + spell level, or 15 + one-half manifester level for a nonpower effect.)

If you concentrate on a specific creature within 120 feet of you as a standard action, you can determine whether it has any manifesting or psi-like abilities, and the strength of the most powerful power or psi-like ability the creature currently has available for use.

Psychic sight can be made permanent with an incarnate power. Doing so requires a minimum manifester level of 13th and 1500 XP.

You contact a particular creature with which you are familiar and send them a single thought, which does not interrupt or distract the target in any way. If the subject does not know you or if you or the target is in an area that nullifies psionic abilities (such as a null psionics field), they do not receive the thought at all. Otherwise, they recognize that the thought is coming from you before they make the saving throw (if any, see below), and can therefore choose to waive the saving throw.

You can transmit one of two kinds of thoughts:

Emotion: You can empathically transmit an emotion of your choice. This empathic communication is identical to that of the empathic connection between a wizard and their familiar, except that the effect is psionic in nature, the transmission is one-way, and you choose the emotion you send (you also choose the intensity of that emotion). If the target knows you, they recognize that the intent is that you are experiencing that emotion. If the emotion you send is fear, there is no saving throw, and if the target is asleep they awake immediately and know that the thought wasn’t a dream.

Image: You can send a single still image that you have seen. This is not enough to treat the location as familiar for the purpose of effects such as teleport. The image the target receives is hazy except for the parts of the image which you specifically want them to see. If any words are in the image, you can choose up to five words to be included (the rest are hazy). This image appears in the target’s mind, not as something they physically see. You can choose to send an emotion of fear along with the image (like described above). If you do, there is no saving throw, and if the target is asleep they awake immediately and know that the thought wasn’t a dream.

Augment: You can augment this power in any or all of the following ways. If you send an emotion of fear as any part of this manifestation, there is no saving throw regardless of which augments you pick.

1. For every additional power point you spend, you can send another thought of your choice.
2. You can spend 1 Power Point to send either a message of up to 10 words or a single still image that you imagined instead of one you’ve physically seen. This is identical to the image option above, except that you must describe the imagined image in detail (limited by your actual ocular precision) and all words in the image are indecipherable. The target recognizes that this isn’t an image you’ve physically seen.
3. For every 2 additional power points you spend, you can instead send 1 round of a live video feed of what you are seeing and hearing. This is identical to the image option above, except that you do not have the option to send an emotion of fear along with it.
4. You can spend 4 power points to change the range to unlimited.
